Implant Dentistry FAQ's
Implant dentist serving Tulsa and Owasso
What are the advantages of dental implants?
Custom-fitted dental implants allow Dr. Lim’s patients to smile confidently with an improved appearance and a jump started self esteem. Created for comfort, dental implants look and feel natural and allow patients to experience improved speech, eat a variety of foods, and enjoy long-term tooth replacement.
Will my dental implant last a lifetime?
Dental implants are created to be durable and to withstand daily activities. However, the longevity of dental implants depends on several factors. First of all, if your tooth, gum and bone structure is at an overall high level of health, you will have a better chance at keeping your implant for a long time. Also, if you have great oral hygiene, are meticulous about brushing and flossing, and practice good nutrition, you may also enjoy additional years from your implant. The talent, experience and skill of your implant dentist also plays a part, as well as the quality of the restoration which supplements your implant.
Will I need to replace my restoration every few years?
After your dental implant is securely in place, Dr. Lim will place a handcrafted crown or bridge to strengthen the new tooth and give it functionality. While the implant will outlast the restoration, how well you care for your tooth and avoid injury or damage to the crown or bridge will help determine how long it lasts.
Am I a good candidate for dental implants?
Almost anyone who needs to replace a missing tooth will make a good candidate for implants. Because dental implants are attached to the underlying jawbone, patients must have a strong jaw bone with enough mass to hold the implant. Patients should consult Dr. Lim for special consideration if they have uncontrolled diabetes, parathyroid disorders, blood disorders, rare bone disorders, bone marrow cancer or are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Is dental implant surgery painful?
Patients will not experience any pain during the procedure. Dr. Lim uses a strong local anesthetic to help patients relax during surgery. Dr. Lim will also prescribe medication if needed to minimize discomfort following surgery.
Is there any down time after dental implant surgery?
Most patients are able to return to work the very next day!
