Endodontics & Root Canals
Serving Tulsa
Endodontics refers to the dental practice of dealing with a patient’s tooth pulp, or dentin. In this inner area of the tooth lie blood vessels which nourish and keep your tooth healthy. If a severe cavity is not caught in time, bacteria can eat away at the root of your tooth, where your nerves are. When a cavity invades this delicate pulp, patients can experience pain and soreness. At this point, a root canal may be recommended in order to save your enamel. Tooth injury can also damage the tooth pulp and require a root canal.
Endodontic treatment with a root canal is basically the removal of that diseased pulp tissue, which allows the tooth to heal and avoid further decay. At the start of your root canal treatment, Dr. Lim will administer a local anesthetic and isolate the infected tooth with a rubber dam. He then creates a small entry hole in the top of the enamel, and cleans out the root canals, extracting all diseased tissue. He will then create a temporary filling to be worn until your next appointment when a permanent filling is applied and sealed. You may also require a porcelain crown to cap the tooth for extra protection.
Do not let toothaches go untreated. Pain and soreness is your body’s way of telling you that decay may be spreading, and we may be able to stop a cavity from doing permanent damage. If you experience pain, throbbing, hot or cold sensitivity, biting or chewing pain, or notice a tooth or gum abscess, contact Dr. Lim immediately in Tulsa for a free consultation.
