The dangers of mercury are well known, and a number of patients with metal fillings, crowns and other restorations are exposed to mercury toxicity. If you are unsure about the mercury content in your fillings, or you prefer to have them taken out to be on the safe side, Dr. Lim can help. If you have old metal fillings that contain mercury, you may choose to have them removed and replaced with composite resin or porcelain fillings.
There are strict guidelines and safety protocols for the removal of amalgam. Dr. Lim will proceed with care during the extraction of your amalgam. Precautions will be taken to make sure you and the staff are not accidentally exposed to any mercury that may be contained in your metal restorations. If performed incorrectly, or by an inexperienced dentist, mercury vapors and particles can travel and reach vital organs, causing mercury toxicity. Dr. Lim will be extremely cautious and make sure he doesn’t allow mercury to be unsafely released and inhaled during drilling.
